Fair Food Week is Happening Near You!

This week starting Monday the 19th to Friday the 25th of August the Australian Food Sovereignty Alliance is facilitating Fair Food Week, a nationwide series of events celebrating the steps we are taking towards a fairer food system with a paddock to plate philosophy at its core.If you've heard of AFSA it may be because of their notable effort in putting together the Peoples' Food Plan, a rebuff to the shortcomings they identified in the National Food Plan developed by the Australian government. At their heart they are a collaborative organisation, so in drafting the Peoples' Food Plan they conducted a comprehensive consultation process as they were determined to reflect the values and opinions of people and groups all throughout the food industry, including eaters, farmers, community groups, health organisations, small and medium businesses, and other advocacy organisations.PFP-coverThis spirit of collaboration and community is reflected in Fair Food Week. All across the country people are putting together events to celebrate fair food and the people behind it. These include forums, workshops, speakers, film nights, farmers' fairs, food swaps, community garden and farm tours, and the list goes on! There's really a whole bunch of fantastic stuff going on all over the country, so jump onto their website to see what's happening in your area. You can keep up to date with Fair Food Week events happening near you at the Fair Food Week website, or if you live in Sydney YFM's Facebook page will be updating daily with events near you, so keep an eye out!
